The ACLU of South Dakota opposed Senate Bill 88, legislation that would have required school counselors, school psychologists or social workers to break their students’ trust and inform parents if their children identify as transgender or are expressing feelings of gender dysphoria.
Craven will lead and expand the organization's legal program across and provide strategic leadership on both litigation and non-litigation legal advocacy in the ACLU’s priority areas.
House Bill 1057 would criminalize doctors for providing medically necessary care to transgender youth and take away parents’ rights to make decisions about their children’s care.
No other state has passed a law like HB 1057. It is unconstitutional to single out one group of people and categorically ban all care, no matter how medically necessary.
