Reaching out to your elected officials is easier than you might think — and it really matters. These folks work for you. They’re elected to represent your interests, so letting them know where you stand on important issues, like civil liberties, is a big deal.

And you don’t have to go all the way to Washington, D.C., to do it. Every Member of Congress has at least one office in their home state. Even if the official isn’t there in person, their staff are — and they’re there to listen. These staffers pass your concerns directly to your elected official and can often help with federal issues, too.

The more people who speak up, the more likely it is that change happens. You don’t need to be an expert, just someone who cares. Call, email, or set up a quick meeting —your voice matters!
