People don't like to talk about abortion. It's too impolite or too political. Too full of partisan talking points or too divisive. That's Midwest Nice for you, right?
But the fact that people don't feel like they can talk about abortion means the small number of anti-abortion activists get to define it however suits them best. We can't let politicians and anti-abortion activists twist the narrative about this very common, very safe medical procedure any longer.
Abortion, after all, isn't the only right at stake.
Join the conversation from anywhere, June 28 at 7 p.m. CT / 6 p.m. MT.
Across the country, our bodies have become political battlegrounds. Politicians are passing extreme bans on abortion, restricting access to birth control and medication abortion, and keeping transgender people from accessing the care that they need.
All of our rights, to make decisions about our bodies, families, and health, are now threatened. And that's why we have to start talking. Will you join us for the ACLU's Let's Talk About Abortion Project? This project is all about building your skills as an advocate and encouraging conversations about abortion across the state.
Join us virtually at 7 p.m. CT / 6 p.m. MT, Wednesday, June 28. During this meeting, you'll connect with other abortion rights supporters and help us shape our project's plans for the next few months.
It's going to take more than one conversation to make change, but a real-life, two-way conversation is the best place to start.
The ACLU strives to create inclusive and accessible events that enable all individuals to fully engage with its programming. If you need specific accommodations to be able to fully participate in this event, please email southdakota@aclu.org by June 25.
