Senate Bill 163 would have given the parole board more direction as to who is eligible for release, particularly when it comes to listening to the recommendations of public health experts during a public health crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, members of the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee voted to advance two extreme anti-abortion bills. House Bill 1130, the so-called “abortion reversal” bill, would require doctors to give false and misleading information to patients.
While proponents say House Bill 1028 streamlines the permitting process by the Water Management Board, the bill actually stifles public participation by only allowing those who are “uniquely injured” by the water use to testify during hearings.
By killing House Bill 1076, Senate lawmakers are upholding the Constitution’s promise that all people have a right to equal protection of the laws and to live freely and openly in society as who they are.
